INTRODUCTION

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are 2 gastrointestinal disorders with a similar name and some common symptoms, but there are also key differences between them. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to chronic inflammatory diseases, mainly ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The main symptoms of the disease are constipation, abdominal pain and diarrhea, while the treatment options are corticosteroids, biological agents, etc... Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) includes similar symptoms, but it is a psychosomatic disease with a different treatment. Current IBS treatment options focus on antidiarrheals and pain relievers, treating symptoms individually. Apart from constipation and abdominal pain, their common feature is the impact on patients' quality of life.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

SEDOASPIS is a product with a combination of ingredients, which help to manage the main symptoms of IBS and IBD. It is based on metabiotics that act on the gut-brain axis and contribute to the improvement of gastrointestinal disorders and to the quality of life of patients with IBS/IBD, in general.

A key ingredient with a strong gut action is the metabiotic butyric acid which improves gut motility, relieving symptoms such as constipation/diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating. Butyric acid is produced during the fermentation of food in the gut by probiotics.

In addition, Sedoaspis includes ingredients with antioxidant and anxiolytic effects. The main antioxidant ingredient is the stigma of the saffron (Crocus Sativus L) which is a plant with a long history and use. Saffron’s stigmas (the bioactive part of the plant) have a high bioactive character, with the most important being the antioxidant.

According to studies, saffron helps to reduce stress and improve sleep quality, and in synergy with vitamin B6, they maintain levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, contributing to an improved mood. Lastly, Sedoaspis includes ingredients with anti-inflammatory action, as well as vitamin D3 which covers the daily needs of IBS/IBD patients.
